Josh won China Tour Yulongwan-Yunnan Open with -25 in Total
An easy victory would not diminish what Josh Geary accomplished in China Tour Yulongwan-Yunnan Open when the Kiwi scored a total -25 for his second win here, which tied the lowest record for the hosting course set by Thai Gunn Charoenkul in 2014. The history repeated itself as Gunn finished in 2nd place with a score of -18 today. Two years ago, it was same Gunn played second fiddle to Josh, only the difference being a single stroke.Four Chinese players charged into top 10, highlighted by the local fan’s favorite Liu Chun’s -17 mark, which was good enough to be in the solo 3rd position, a career best for this ex-soldier. And other 3 Chinese top 10ers were Huang Wenyi, Xiao Bowen and Liu Chun’s buddy Yuan Tian.
Josh started the final round with 4 birdies in first 5 holes and pulled away from the field with a 7 birdies and dropped no stroke. It is believed the set up this year was much more difficulty than the 2014’s edition, so Josh got more accolade for his convincing victory. “With Gunn being in my back, I have to play my best to win it , the 4 stroke advantage I had before the final round could be gone quickly if I did not pay attention to him, whose best score here was -11.”he admitted.
“The feeling was so good when you could uphold the champion trophy again.” Josh also thought the key to his title performance was in 6th and 7th hole, where he saved the pars with incredible putts.
The runner up finishing was the personal best for Gunn in the tour this year, “My ball striking was very good today and I had my chances. However, I lost to a hotter opponent and Josh deserved the victory.” Gunn fired 6 birdies and dropped 2 strokes.
Gunn indicated his favorite places in the tour remain to be Yunnan, which will continue to host the tour in Jialize resort this coming week. The new tournament would be titled as CGD Jialize Yunnan Championship.
The persons who are eager to move to next stop include Liu Chun, who finished the round on the emotional note by posting 4 birdies and 1 eagle. “ this was the most satisfying week for me so far and hopefully things would not be carried away next week.”
