Qualifiers Survived from Gusty Wind of China Tour Qualifying Site II
On Friday, China Tour Q-School Site II finished at OCT Kunming Wind Valley. 18 players achieved their full membership for China Tour Regular Season in 2018. Winds blew up the golf course in all rounds. Players said the golf course is extremely difficult to shoot good scores, instead, saving par is most players’ target from Tuesday to Friday.
Winds started to blow on the course from first round. Korean player Minjun Park adjust to the wind quickly and lead the first round. Todd Baek is a Korean player, but grew up in New Zealand. He is aiming to the qualification of European Tour from 2018 China Tour. Because of the winds, none hole average score was under par after the first round. Winds were getting stronger in the second round. Gust were 39km/h on the course. Minjun Park kept his leader position by shooting 3 over in the second round, Yuto Soeda, from Japan, became the co-leader with Minjun Park. Luke Toomey, from New Zealand, indicated that professional players should use to the wind and adjust strategies to overcome difficulties. After the third round, Luke leads the field. The only exception of the third round was K. P. Lin. He shot 66 with 6 birdies on Thursday. Players tried their best to fight with winds on Friday.
During tournament, Thursday January 25th was December 8th in Chinese Lunar calendar. It was Laba Festival, a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the eighth day of the La Month, the twelfth month of the Chinese calendar. Tournament Committee prepared the most traditional food for Laba Festival, Laba rice porridge, for our players.
